Antonio Centurión

Antonio is a master of the Paraguayan Harp. He is a native Paraguayan and a proud descendant of the Guaraní Indian. Antonio has been a dedicated musician all his life. In addition to the harp, he also plays guitar, and accordion. He comes from a magical place "Ita Vera" (Shiny Rock) which is a small Guaraní village located by the Parana River, in Paraguay.
Since an early age Antonio demonstrated interest, passion and natural ability to play musical instruments. The harp intrigued the young Antonio. At age 11 he took harp lesson from Dionisio Godoy, a Paraguayan harpist from his community.
Antonio immigrated to USA in 1991, and since then he has performed in many stages throughout Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia.
In 2001, thanks to the Oregon Folklife Program/Oregon Historical Society, Antonio, received an award from the Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program and completed succesfully a Paraguayan harp apprenticeship with Hanna Viera, a young student from his community in Portland-Cornelius, Oregon.
In October 2007 Antonio received an award from the Artists Support Program, a Program of the Fund for Folk Culture supported by grants from the Ford Foundation, the William & Flora Hewlett Foundation and the San Francisco Foundation, to work on his project "The Paraguayan Harp, A Legacy of the Guarani Indian, Part II".
In addition of been a harp soloist, Antonio he plays in a number of diverse groups including "Grupo Kultura", (Andean Folk Music), "Los Gauchos Guaraní", (Paraguayan Music), "Los Mensajeros Latinos", "Imagen Latina" & "Ecos del Sur", (Latin America Music).
Antonio had released two music album, "Transicion" and "The Paraguayan Harp, A Legacy of The Guarani Indian". Among his own musical composition are "Amalia Pe Guara", "El Caballo Negro","Transicion",etc.
Away from the harp, Antonio enjoys spending time with his family, working on antique cars, reaching out, advocating for his community members in Portland Oregon, and for his community of origin in Paraguay.
Antonio describes himself as a humble Paraguayan harp player who wants to learn from the world and to share the legacy of the guarani indian culture through the journey of his life.
